i was thinking about buying a Optrel Satellite but went to the store and tried it on. i just started taking a welding class so am new, but isnt a smaller viewing window like the Optrel a negative thing, compared to the Jackson Nexgen i saw or the Speedglass 9002x. does it also matter to have those 2 extra sensors like Jackson and Miller have totaling 4 sensors?? speedglas and optrel seem to have only 2, thanks for your input, Im still a newbie!!
Reply:I have a miller XLI series that I use primarily for TIG welding. It has a 3.85 x 1.85 window and two sensors and it works great. I guess it depends on comfort and how much $ you want to spend.
Reply:I also have been looking at helmets and so far i have not found one that I totally like in every way. Some have some features I want and others have different ones. The Optrel has everything I like except the big window and the #3 clear state. I like the settings all the way down to #5 that can also be used for plasma cutting. It also can be used for grinding. I also like the solar powered feature and you don't have to manually turn it on every time you use it. Some of them stay on for 20 min after you quit.My pick would be the optrel if they would put in a bigger window with a #3 clear state.Welder- Miller Thunderbolt AC 225-DC 150 Plasma cutter, Miller Spectrum 300O/P torch- Victor 100
Reply:i work for the #1 tractor manufacturer in the world and weld all night long on parts ranging from small arms for loaders to big links for the booms...i use a miller XLi series for that and haven't had a lick of trouble yet and it's almost 2 years old...just now had to change the battery...have a big window Elite too but onnly do i use it for rare occasions that call for it...the XLi is the best bang for the buck when it comes to feature and lightweight
Reply:opteral all the way veiwing area isnt all that important sometimes it will be but for 90% it wont
Reply:May not matter to you wupper snappers but it matters to some.Window area is much more important if you wear glasses. Bifocal wearers need to be able to "look down thier nose" at the puddle. Drugstore reading glasses may be a viable option for some, and keep the expensive specs out of the shop.I don't wear bifocals, but find that sometimes my glasses slip when I lower the hood, so that I can't look through both the small lens and my glasses without lifting the hood and re-adjusting my glasses. This was a real pain with a normal hood, as I sometimes wouldn't notice untill I struck the arc and couldn't see squat. My glasses would be fine untill I "nodded" and with a dark lens, I couldn't see without an arc anyway. With the QC, I notice problem before I start to weld, so I get by fine with the small lens, though I wish it were wider, as my eyes are at the very wide end of the the "normal" range...they always know when I was the last one to use the microscope at work.
Reply:I've had mine for a little over a year now. I cannot say one bad thing about it. I got mine online with free shipping and it saved me some bucks compared to the local shops.good luckBrianLincoln Mig 215Miller 211Victor Torch SetMiller Maxstar 200SDMiller Syncrowave 250DX Tig runnerMiller Trailblazer 302 running on LPMiller Extreme 12 VS SuitcaseEllis 1600 BandsawMiller xmt350 CC/CVLincoln Vantage 300 |
