im thinking about buying the lincoln 225 Amp arc welder Model #K1170anyway.. how would do i go about setting up the 220 volt outlet or whatever?
Reply:I own the Lincoln AC225 (AC only) I think it's great. I have a friend that has the AC/DC model .... same thing, only different.I seem to be able to do anything he can. As for Electical hook up, You'll need to pop in a 50 amp 2 pole breaker in your fuse box and put in an outlet. If your unsure, buy a wiring book or better yet,Call an electrician.

Reply:Great machine! I cut my teeth on one of them! My dad taught me how to weld on his, did more learning on same machine in high school, and most shops I have worked at have had at least one that was and is still used from time to time. I agree, 50amp double pole breaker and I believe 8-3 wire will do the trick but you may want to check that out.A few of my toys !LinuxMintManjaroMiller Roughneck 2E Lincoln WeldPak 100HTP MTS 160 Chicago Electric 80amp Inverter Victor O/A
Reply:Wire size, etc probably changes based on the building codes where you live, but mine is wired with 8-3 with the outlets spaced 12 ft apart on one wall. I then have an 8-3 extension cord to take the power to anywhere in the garage or driveway. I love the Lincoln, and it is my welder of choice for most metal projects. It just does what you ask, 100% duty, and plenty of heat for nearly any project.
Reply:I cut my teeth on a 225/125 ac/dc. Although the ac will technically do all the dc will do there is a safety issue with dc. DC is better in damp conditions. I always used DC on mine. I loved it. Sold it only when I no longer needed it, my new machine does everything it did plus a lot more. Though I at times wish I still had it. Good luckCHRIS |
