Will a weld rust if you don't paint it? I spot welded some spacers for a shelf (all zinc metal parts) that's going inside of my cargo van - with a lincoln mig sp-135 with innershield wire.Dave
Reply:Yep they'll rust eventually. Not bad in a van but sooner or later. Ya know there are a few different brands of zinc paints in rattle cans that are designed for touch up on things like this. I'd think one of the low end types would work fine for you here.
Reply:Yes the weld will rust in time even inside your cargo van. I would brush it off and spray a little aluminum paint on each weld it will match the coated parts as close as anything will.Good luck:J.W.
Reply:The best thing I have found to prevent rust is Por 15. It is some great stuff. It is nasty, costs a lot, but works great. Always use gloves when painting this stuff on, if you get it on you, it takes weeks to get off. It brushes on and dries to a great looking finish. It can be sanded and painted over. It does not like UV.Earl
Reply:Ivy guy, try some cold galv spray. Most weld shop suppliers carry it and its mil- spec quality so you know it will work. |
