im 15 and have just been given a mig welder, can someone tell me what gas, wire and nozzle/tips i will need to use for welding nothing thicker than 1mm (sheet/box section/round section and angle iron) please!!also could someone advise me on how to go about welding this?thanks!
Reply:Usually the smaller MIG welders come with a great manual that will tell you everything you need to know. If it is a Lincoln, it comes with a video. For starting out, you want standard mig 75/25 gas, the weld shop will know what you mean, I would go with 0.25" tip and wire, and whatever nozzle came with the machine. Here is one link.http://www.millerwelds.com/education/basicMIG/index.htm
Reply:You're gonna need 75%/25% Argon/CO2 (called C25), .023-.025 solid wire, .025 tips, tons of practice and even more luck. You've picked a difficult starting point in the world of welding no matter what process. When you say nothing thicker than 1mm you're talking about 20awg and possibly thinner. That's awfully thin for me, but there are some here who do a lot a sheet work so maybe they'll jump in a little later.edit to say ctardi was quicker at typing than me, so my post is a carbon of his. Didn't mean to waste space here.Last edited by Sandy; 10-23-2005 at 01:27 PM.
