can I run a mm251 off of a bobcat 225 I wont be needing to crank it up too high probably 17 or sothankssteveBTS Welding
Reply:Ive thought about this and thought about it...my first instinct is to say yes.  But I will see what Ic an come up with.  The miller documents claim you can run a 210 off bobcat.  I assume your referencing the new bobus right?  They have 10KW of power, but Ill have to double check and see what I can come up with.  What I will say is you should be able to run a bobus off this.  Exactly how high Im not really posistive.  when you say 17...you mean 17 volts??IF it Catches...Let it Burn
Reply:Ok Steve,So I checked some figures here.  Just for verification sake.  I understand that volts times amps = watts,  so I do need to talk to my EE granddad but for your needs this will suffice.   Basically the bobus 225(the new one) on its spec sheet says it will power a 210.  Doesnt mention anything else except a spectrum.  However,  Mind you that the generator cranks out the same amount of aux power for the 225 and the 250.  The mm210 claims to put out 6500 watts. That comes from the 67 or so amps and the 230V.   The MM251 though gives figures of 42 amps @ 230V.   Your plug is a 240V 50 amp plug.  Therefore you can run the 42 amps and 230V.  The catch to this one is that 240V X 50 amps is 12K,  so obviously we cant go on that.  But if we stick to our 10KW and we multiply the 230V X 42 amps we get 9660.  Seems when I looked at the specs on the 251 they showed KVA 9.8 and KW 7.5   This is confusing to me.  The KVA are much closer to what I thought the KW were supposed to be.  And I only recently started hearing about how on these machiens the KVA can actually cause you a problem. However, in this situation I sincerely beleive that the Bobus Catus will perform the duty you are expecting.  It appears you've got just enough power.  Turn your fine adjustment knob all the way to 10.   The just let her rip.  I pulled my numbers at 250 so since youll be running less you will be that much less under the gun.  Ive heard you may hear your engine sound like its laboring.  Though this is not as much Ive heard with bobus.  They tell me this is perfectly normal and dont worry.  You will be on the upper end of this capability, but you should have 100% power.   Good luckIF it Catches...Let it Burn
