I am fairly new to welding; I would like to get some information on the Lincoln precision TIG and the Miller SYncrowave 180. My primary application is going to be welding anodized aluminum pipe (schedule 40) for marine applications (leaning posts, t-tops, etc.). I would possibly like to weld other metals in the future as well. I am looking to keep the price between $1000-$2000. Any information or recommendations regarding this would be greatly appreciated.
Reply:Both of those are fine machines but I will make you a suggestion. Keep your eye on ebay.  I see alot of good high end machines sell for under $2000.   I do a good bit of marine repair and fabrication for friends of mine who are into outboard drag racing.  I think alot of the smaller tigs are going to be boderline for some of the stuff you will run into in the marine industry especially if you are going to be doing alot of welding.  one reason I say that is because of the duty cycle.  A larger machine will give you alot longer weld time before you overheat the machine.  I have no experience with the syncrowave, but I have run the precision tig 185 for a few days trying one out, and it did a very nice job.  Nothing against either machine, but if you do not mind buying a used machine I think you could get alot more for your money.   Just my $.02  ~JacksonI'm a Lover, Fighter, Wild horse Rider, and a pretty good welding man......
