I'm a newb welder and I'm looking for a unit.  I stumbled upon this while searching ebay.  Anyone have experience or know of someone who has used these units.  They seem too good to be true.http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-30-A-PLASMA-...QQcmdZViewItemandhttp://cgi.ebay.com/20-40Amp-Plasma-...QQcmdZViewItemThanks for your feedback.
Reply:I have seen these for a while on ebay...I have felt the same way.  Remember, you can contact the members that bought the machines and ask them about their current satisfaction (after a few months).  Since they cant do followup feedback, this might be a good way to get an idea about how well they do in the long run in areas like electrode life, reliability, parts, service....but, I dont see any reason they shouldnt work.  DC inverters make good welders and plasma cutters (with a little air).I stumbled onto some pretty serious compact ac/dc tig machines from china once while just blindly following links about tig welders, however, I have never seen any of them in the US market.  They were square wave machines with bunches of adjustments, just all in chinese and so were the descriptions.  The pictures were nice, and most were models like 200 amp or 220 amp (I am guessing, cause my chinese is really bad, but my recognition of numbers is pretty good).  Here is one of them....looks kinda similar to the ebay ones in style....http://eastgrace.en.alibaba.com/prod...A/showimg.htmlI bet shipping on this thing would get kinda high from mainland china.  Minumum order 100 units...wow!Last edited by smithboy; 10-17-2005 at 05:36 PM.Smithboy...if it ain't broke, you ain't tryin'.
Reply:Well we got it in.  It plasmas and tigs fine!  we got this unit for 600+ shipping.  We will get a stick holder and test out stick welding soon.
Reply:That's great!  I might ask again in 6 months to check on the reliability.  Did you get the one that has reversable plasma electrodes?Smithboy...if it ain't broke, you ain't tryin'.
Reply:www.AIRGAS.com for welding stuff
Reply:We (in Australia) are getting a huge amount of power tools in from China these days. They're branded GMC - Global Machinery Company.I bought a metal chop saw for $100 and it's fine. I need to cut some timber decking in January and I was going to hire a mitre saw. I just saw a GMC one for $130 - cheaper than a couple of days hire.Small grinders are about $30 to buy. So are drills. The quality is pretty good and the known brands are losing lots of business.Cars will be next. When a company of a billion or so people decides to embrace capitalism, it get's interesting. We all like to support local producers, but loyalty waivers when prices differ by 80%.Like I said a while ago, China is a huge threat to the 'American way of life' US - a much bigger threat than terrorism.Scott
