I realize this is a little off-topic, but I figured the info I get here would be reliable....I'm looking at purchasing some polished stainless steel #304 nerf bars for my pickup. They claim they are marine grade and come with a lifetime guarantee. Is this SS#304 really that durable? Thanks!
Reply:316 is what most refer to as marine grade. 321, 347, and 348 also share similar corrosion resistance but at much greater cost.
Reply:Yes , stainless iss the only way to go with nef bars! As a matter of fact one of my buddies bought a set and I customized them for him. I took off those cheap plastic steps they got on them and tigged on some stainless diamond tread. Then I taped of the new steps and sand blasted them ...it made for a real cool look.
Reply:304 is relatively easy to polish. For automotive use it certainly will last. It may stain or show rust marks if ferrous material is deposited on its surface. Otherwise it will outlast your truck.

Reply:I don't believe you can get flux cored stainless. |
