hi, iam a QC supervisor of a welding electrode manufacturer here in the philippines. i have a some background in metallurgy, iam interested in learning about welding engineering. there is no school here in the philippines or any information with regards to welding engineering here in my country and i cannot afford to study abroad. the manufacturing industry of welding electrodes here in the philippines is still at an early stage (just a hand full of companies). theres a lot of books for sale in other country, but i don't know which books to start first and which titles. hence, the book is so expensive to risk buying the wrong title. iam interested in studying chemical/mineral  compositions, flux adjustment basically the developments of welding electrode and how to improve them.thanks for all the help in advance.
Reply:Hey,I grew up in a developing area myself...Rural Georgia.  This forum deals mainly with application, but sometimes approaches the subject of theory.  One resource for the more theoretical topics is the AWS welding journal.  Beyond that, and you are out of welding and into physics and engineering proper.  The second link below is to the online portion of the journal.  Not everything is available online, but it might get you started.  I am not sure if electrodes are covered by any of the papers online, but most of the papers have sources listed...Search titles of source papers in google...sometimes folks put working papers on their personal websites...working papers are typically only early versions of published papers and the titles and titles often remain the same.  You might also search for a syllabus for a metallurgy course at a technical university, or applied industrial arts school.  There might be some course material listed.  http://www.aws.org/http://www.aws.org/w/s/wj/Smithboy...if it ain't broke, you ain't tryin'.
Reply:Purchase 'welding mettalurgy volumes 1 and 2 by G Linert.Vol. 2 is best for electrode formulation.Order through www.aws.orgBrian Bain Welding Engineering Consultant
