Are Century Welders any good? There is one on Ebay I am looking at. I have only used Miller, Clarke and Lincoln welders so I don't know about Century's quality or reliability.
Reply:I'd get at the very least a 175 amp machine in a Miller,Hobart or a Lincoln. It would actually be better to step up from there to a 210 Miller or a 215? Lincoln. If you buy a Century welder you'll be buying another one soon. DavidDavid
Reply:Hey LoganMy very first MIG welder was a 85 amp century gasless model.Granted, I only paid $100 for it, but i wasn't very impressed. With the low amps and VERY low duty cycle, it was only useful for sheet metal. & being a fluxcore machine, it wasn't the greatest for that. Sold it, bought a HH175, & was much happier.Hope that helps with your decision.Shane
Reply:I have a 135A 115V model and it's ok, but I wouldn't buy it again. In fact, I'm saving for a larger, higher quality MIG. My main gripes with it are 1) it is not always consistent, and 2) parts are a pain to find.  Some days it welds fine, but other days, the feed isn't consistent. Also, I kinked the liner (my bad) and had to special order a replacement, which meant a 2-week downtime. My only comparison is much larger Miller machines (MM210 and MM251), which seemed more precise and consistent.
Reply:Century was recently acquired by Lincoln, but I haven't the foggiest what that will mean for support, parts, etc.
Reply:OP, I got half a hunch Lincoln bought Century to remove a compeditor from the marketplace so they can peddle more little welders with "magic welding wands" through box stores.Century was a battery charger manufacturer, and was into miniMIG machines before Lincoln or Miller.  Lincoln just might have been paying licensing and eliminated that by buying Century.Appreciation Gains You Recognition-
Reply:Hey Guys,You don't have to ever worry about getting parts or service for any Century Welder or Battery charger. It is ture that Lincoln Electric bought Century out but all the factory replacement parts for Century are available at A & A Hydraulic Repair Co. in Cleveland, OH 44142 phone 216-362-4000 or toll free 800-992-9898 Lincoln only kept a few replacement parts for Century to use in Lincoln product and A & A Hydraulic bought all of inventory and vendor list from Lincoln to service Century. More info is available at www.lincolnelectricparts.com  So tell your business friends that have Century product or want to buy some, A & A Hydraulic Repair Co. has all the parts.Sincerely,Bernie
Reply:From what I gather they work well within there limits.  Where guys have trouble it's because they expect them to perform beyond what they are designed for or they don't run them from a proper 20 amp ckt.  ( talking 110v migs.) You can't plug them into any old 110 plug and expect them to work properly.DennisThermal Arc 185-TSWMillermatic Challenger 172VictorO/AAtlas Craftsman 12 by 24 LatheEsab PCM-875Wholesalem Tool Mill-Drill
Reply:I own the 135 amp Century mig, it worked pretty well for a year or so then it began to have problems. I took it in and the circuit board was replaced but it has never welded very good since it took its dive. It doesn't do too bad on the high end but the low settings are pretty much useless on it.
