I'm at work and there's absolutely nothing to do. Well, nothing that can't wait for a day or so. I'm only in here to make sure the youngsters are working. When you guys post pictures of your welding benches, projects etc, I like looking to see what I can see of your shops ('sheds' to us). A few years ago somebody published a book down here about guy's shops/sheds. There were some great ones.I noted in Harv's recent post he's got a fantastic, huge, open sided shed and obviously lives out of town somewhere that doesn't get too cold.So who else has photos of their shed?Scott

Reply:Now that's a nice setting for a shed. I'm hoping that somewhere in that yard you've got a hammock where you can lie with a beer at the end of the day and look at the things you've made. What sort of work do you do with the forge?
Reply:Mine looks like this............ Attached ImagesWe need to protect Freedom of Speech, otherwise, how would we know who the A-holes (like me) are.
Reply:Scott,  where Harvey lives is does get cold...like tdfay.  It rained.  But our winters are short.  Our summers are hot.  Winter does get cold though.   Where BB lives his winters get cold, but are wet.  His summers prolly get ratehr warm, not as bad as here  but its usually warmer then youd prefer when youre working IF it Catches...Let it Burn

Reply:I'm presuming that's a steel boat in that huge shed, BB? Last time I was in the States I went to the Wooden Boat Foundation in Washington. Forget exactly where it was.We have pretty mild winters in Sydney, Tx. An hours drive west there is a low mountain range that gets some snow in the winter. Usually just a couple of inches every now and then. I've been in Michigan in winter, so I know how cold it gets where Chuck lives. I was staying in a big house on the lake. Arrived at night. When I looked out in the morning, there were little sheds on the ice for fishermen. I thought that only happened in movies. That trip was also my first experienced at driving on icy roads - slid straight across the first intersection I came to, got out of the car and walked instead. As for Texas, I've never been there. Next time.  Scott
Reply:You will like texas ..  why?   cause its like austrailia...its vastly differnt depending on where you go! IF it Catches...Let it Burn
Reply:Ah yes, but sometimes it's better to go to places that are nothing like where you live.

Reply:Here are a few photo's of our workshop it is only small 20' x 20' with a 20' x 20' skillion off the front. And it is fairly full.  Simonhttp://members.optusnet.com.au/~abba/index.html Attached Images
Reply:That's a very organised looking shop. You'd need to be organised to turn out the work you do.Bet it get's bloody hot in there in summer in Gooloogong.
Reply:Yes I gets very hot we have been having 45 degree days for a while but this afternoon it is raining. We (Lynda my wife) and I try to keep our shop neat we both work in it full time, We never know what will come through the door, But the wrought iron is the most enjoyable part.Scott I would like to see some of your projects. How long have you been welding for?.Did the web sites help?, If I can be any help just sing out.Simon http://members.optusnet.com.au/~abba/index.html
Reply:ctardi, I saw a welded "MYTHBUSTERS" plaque in one of your photos.   Are you affiliated with the show?   If so, GREAT JOB!!!!   My 10 year old son has negotiated to be able to stay up late on Wednesdays to watch it.     Anyhow, The photos below are my workshop.    It's a basic 36" x 24" pole barn, uninsulated and rarely as clean as in the pictures.    I do both wood and metal working in there, but at the moment, I'm better equiped for woodworking.     This picture was taken just before pulling my old pickup in to finish up the bodywork Attached ImagesThere are no small projectsThat's a decent sized shed, Imagineer. If you send me an e-mail I'll send you a copy of a great new Aussie TV commercial for beer that's set in a shed. Happy to send it to anyone who wants to see it.Welder.man,New Year's day in Sydney got to 45 degrees. It was bizarre. For you Americans, that's around 115 degrees farenheit.Scott I would like to see some of your projects. How long have you been welding for?.
Reply:Scott That's a neat job on the kitchen, Timber or steel you can see the attention to detail you have.As far as marketing our stuff, a few adds in newspapers, our websites but mainly word of mouth, we do a job for one person and next we are doing a job for their family and friends, We sell a lot of things into Sydney and the blue mountains. But our main work is fabrication and repairs on argricutural equipment.Simonhttp://members.optusnet.com.au/~abba/index.html
Reply:So what pays best - the fun stuff or the farm stuff? Here's another kitchen photo. My wife is the envy of her friends because her husband built her a kitchen. And when her friend come over I say to them: 'Surely your husband could knock up a new kitchen for you? they're easy to do.'The reality is it nearly killed me. The only reason I did it was the quote from the joiner came in and I thought: 'Bugger that, I'll do it myself.' It took me about a year, but I could only do bits on the weekend and I had to do it in such a way that we always had a functioning kitchen. Attached Images
Reply:The fun stuff I enjoy the most but we don't get enough of it, The farm stuff pays the bills, We get all sorts of things from a broken gate hinge to working on tractors and headers. This week I am making permenarnt sheep yards.I also build spray units here is one I made for a fellow in QLD for strawberries. It is full computerized and took about one month to build, I ended up making about eight of them.Simonhttp://members.optusnet.com.au/~abba/index.html Attached Images
Reply:You must be good if you get interstate orders like that. Some of the Americans have been talking about the restrictions on them welding outdoors during fire season. What are the restrictions on you?
Reply:I lived in QLD for about four years where I took on the workshop of a tractor dealership and that is where I made the spray rigs I have thought about going back into them but my workshop is a lot smaller these days. Most of my work is in my workshop, but when I get out in the field I just be careful and use common sense I have a water charged fire extinguisher I carry with me, I don't have any restrictions on me as such. A lot of the farmers I work for are in the Rural fire service and have their own fire fighting equipment and keep a clean bare patch I drag any work onto.Simonhttp://members.optusnet.com.au/~abba/index.html

Reply:That TV commercial is on its way. Anybody else want to see it?My Vice President of design picked the colours. I'm not sure I would have been game to go with lime green on that bench, but she told me it would look great. And it does. At night it feels like a bar.Of course, my mother isn't so sure about it. The guys who supplied the laminate.
Reply:I like the kitchen also.  It looks cool and tropical at the same time.  You're right, it does kinda look like a bar.  Very clean design...no clutter.  It's kinda art deco.Smithboy...if it ain't broke, you ain't tryin'.
Reply:On my previous post I meant to say: 'The guys who supplied the laminate hated it.'Smithboy, you surprise me. Maybe your tastes aren't as simple as you've said they are?
Reply:I'll throw in some pics of my "shed".  30x40 feet, doubles as garage and shop very well insulated and heated, Cold winters with lots of snow 6000 feet in elevation in the mountains East of Bozeman Montana.  Travis Attached Images
Reply:One more for (of) the road!  This was November 24th 2005, its taken from the garage looking down the driveway.  Thirty inches of snow with wind drifted it up door handle high on the Bronco.  Yes I'm stuck, it took around five hours to plow out!  Supposed to be near -40 degrees f tommorow night.  Glad I have four walls!  Travis Attached Images
Reply:What's snow?Just kidding.I've always wanted to spend a winter in place that gets alot of snow, but I suspect spending every winter in one would do my head in. I guess it's what you're used to. I would like to have a go on one of those green things, though. If you hadn't dug that car out when you did, what would have happened to it?
Reply:Thats actually my plow truck, the snow plow is down there somewhere!  I was plowing the driveway clear and threw a tire chain causing me to stop.  The storm was pretty well over so if I hadn't dug it out at that point it just would have blocked the driveway and the last hundred feet of drive wouldn't have gotten plowed and we would be riding the "green things" to work and the grocery store!  TB
Reply:Hiya doc nice shed and sleds.even with the shoveling i think about moving back up to bozeman or manhattanDo me a favor and stop in at the catspaw or the molley brown and drink a couple moosedrools for me!!Its too darn hot here in texas and flat as all getout....first place ive ever been where ya can climb on ur roof and watch ur dog run away for three days. you may remember  me ..or at least the newspaper story back in 99..or was it 98 lol been breathing too many fumes) i was in a realy bad mood and made the mistake of siting at the molly brown and getting waaaay too drunk.well to make a long story short i got particularly rednecked and decided that playing bumper cars with 2 bozeman cops was a better move then just pulling over and taking the dui....well, was definetaly not the right choice.Im just glad no one was hurt.couple serious life lessons learned theredrinking and driving just plain stupid12 hrs of drinking big 4 wheel tires and snow=baaaaaaaad karma
Reply:And I guess the novelty of riding the green things everywhere wears off after a while.first place ive ever been where ya can climb on ur roof and watch ur dog run away for three days.
