Reply:Ford Nut. I run 10cfh. 3/23 2%tungsten. Straight argon through a gas lens.ER70-2. I use uncoated rod. 600 grit sandpaper will remove the copper.Wipe it down with scotchbrite and denatured alcohol. At each joint you need to drill a vent hole to relieve the pressure being generated by expanding hot air.I use a 1-8 split point stub drill. You need to turn the bit slow to avoid workhardening the spot you are drilling. If the pressure is not vented a glob of molten metal will be propelled up into your torch and ALL OVER THE TUNGSTEN as you weld the last .100 or so of the weld. About 90% of the welding job is the fit up of your joints. I use a Bridgeport with an inch and a half roughing end mill.An inch and five-eights is not available as far as I know.Finish the 1.500 cut with a side grinder.Keep me posted on your progress. |
