Alright folks, you are going to think I am a nut but heres the thing. At my job, there are several syncrowaves an esab and a couple of L-tectig machines. Only when I use the syncrowaves do I get shocked sometimes.I am welding aluminum on ac. I have a carhart shirt with snaps and am inclined to believe that my cuff snap is grounding to the work or table. But why on the syncrowave and not the others. Is is a high freq thing or a solid state board thing. The power in my building is questionable and has fried several boards in one area of the shop, but I have been shocked by these machines in different areas. So, you guys with all the wisdom, what the hell is going on here?ThanksBill
Reply:stop grounding the rod out on the machine while your holding it.. seriously...sounds like a building ground problem down the line somewhere..i like to go dc straight with a sharp tungestion and have the path go thru my thumbnail when i'm touching it on the table from about an inch away.. (say around 80 amps and just a light touch on the pedal)...freaks everyone out... ...zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:Yeah, a little voltage is good for the heart.  Any reason you can think of that this is a syncrowave problem? I have no trouble with the l-tecs and esabs.I should mention that it isn't a continuous shock, I can use the machine but I never know when I'm gonna get 'hit'.again, thanks for the input.Bill
Reply:could be just a matter of sweat getting in the way...it is summer and your sweat can make a ground happen..as far as a syncrowave machine goes...maybe they are that much more sensitave??...zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:You are probably right. It doesn't matter which syncrowave I am working with or where. Oh, well. I know which machine not to buy for my garage.Bill
Reply:You ARE wearing gloves , aren't you ?. Bare sweating hands & hi-freq=  shock.[SIZE="5"Yardbird"
Reply:I see these MORONS on tv  making choppers -no hood, no gloves, they deserve anything that happens. I have no pity on that kind of nonsense . i know they do beautiful work, - but whats wrong is WRONG .[SIZE="5"Yardbird"
Reply:i use a glove on my torch handnever on the filler handgotta keep the filler clean..wash your hand before begining..look...guys this is the way i learned doing govt work for the navy..and it does make a diffrence...a glove is a oil and dirt magnet and all it does is contaminate the filler..look at your gloves now and tell me its like new  unless you use a new one every time...gloves on the filler hand?never have never willthats just me......zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.

Reply:i would lke to tell you i know what is wrong with your syncrowave but i dont what i do know is the one were i used to work did the same thingChuckASME Pressure Vessel welder
Reply:I don't know if its a sweat thing but I am probably grounding somehow. I do where gloves but it is an all aluminum shop so there isn't the usual grease and grime. I don't work with steel unless I am at home or have a special project at work so my gloves only have aluminum dust etc on them.I think Zap is right, they may be more sensitive. Thanks for the input.Bill
Reply:I've an "old" Synch 300 and am not having any shocking situations but I also have adjusted the hi-freq. points--I think the setting is .010"? That and an old torch may allow electricity to leak out and zap you. (both my torches are new).I'm going to "test" a procedure and I'll get back to you on if it works or not.
