If there is anyone here from georgia or minnesota I would like to speak with them about AWS meetings and also about the upcoming aws show in atlanta
Reply:Whatch'a wanna know?  I know Atlanta's downtown area pretty well.  I just went to see where it's being held...it's at the world congress center.  That's right next to the CNN center and the new Aquarium.  I worked just a block or three from there for 13 years.  There are a few hotels within walking distance from the WCC, but the hotel in the CNN center is by far the closest....and probably the most expensive.  If you look up Fairly-Poplar and Atlanta you will see other hotels close by and also see a bunch of restaurants (BUNCHES).  This is right next to GA State University, so cheap good food abounds...just not at the world congress center.Last edited by smithboy; 08-24-2006 at 08:17 AM.Smithboy...if it ain't broke, you ain't tryin'.
Reply:Hello from Ga. I'm going to the show; I highly recommend it to anyone interested in welding and fabrication.Weldtek
Reply:I already have my plane tickets and hotel I was just hoping someone from this forum who is local is going so maybe we can meet up and chat and also I need the low down on what fun gentlemans clubs are in the dt area that i can get to (lol)
Reply:I recently found out about the show and plan to go as well...  It's only a 30 - 40 minute drive for me - barring traffic.
Reply:The downtown area is pretty "family-friendly," except for the pan-handlers and the crazy people, but they are mostly harmless (mostly, that is...be careful).  For more adult-oriented entertainment (of all types, bars, clubs, whatever), you really have to head north to midtown (on the east side of I-75/I-85, the west side is mostly GA Tech) or beyond for a good selection.  There are a few clubs west of the conference on Marietta St., but from the world congress center, DON'T go west on foot.  Get a cab.For stuff closeby, the Underground has some new bars, but it's still struggling with what it really wants to be...a mall or a club.  A real trendy place for the younger crowd is Little 5-Points, which is right off a MARTA line, so it's easy and cheap to get to.  There is a really popular restaurant there called The Vortex that caters to the biker and biker-wanna-be crowd.  It's a great place to people-watch.  If you like bikes of all types, it's a great place to see them also.  There is also a music venue called the Variety Playhouse (made from an old movie theater).  It's one of the best places in Atlanta to see live music, in my opinion.  Nothing X-rated, but a lot of R's.Buckhead is THE bar location, but it's also THE Better-Have-A-Wad-Of-Money location.  It's the area where you can spend a lot and only get a little.  Lots of young executives and rich go there and spend, spend, spend. If you go the the Atlanta Creative Loafing website, they generally have a ranking of everything, including all kinds of clubs, bars and restaurants...best this and best that.  http://www.creativeloafing.com/But for some reason, I cant get it right now.Last edited by smithboy; 08-25-2006 at 08:50 AM.Smithboy...if it ain't broke, you ain't tryin'.
