what ya think. which is better. went to talk to a fella about about getting his overflow, since won't work outside the shop and i got a whole service/welding truck sitting while i'm on the road during the week. i use a company truck during the week on my crusher and tractors.well, i was talking to the guy to see if i could get enough work from him, with what i got already, to quit my job and stay home for a change. so the shop owner asks me about my euipment. i tell him, TB302, lincoln 175SP, speedaire compressor, scratch tig, o/a setup and spectrum 375. all nice and tidy on a flatbed 450. guy says no spoolgun. i told him no, and he gives a "hmpph, no spool gun"i've never used one and the tig torch seems to have worked for me for the last few years. so in ya'lls honest opinions, do ya think i need a spoolgun or just run the tig?"Retreat hell, were just fighting in the other direction"Miller Trailblazer 302, Extreme 12 VS, Dimension 400, Spectrum 375, HF 251D-1, Milermatic 251 w/ spoolgun Hypertherm 1000Lincoln sp 1702000 F-450 to haul it
Reply:backuproller, looks like he's worried about production. I'm a very green rookie, but it looks like he's worried about production vs quality. To me tig = slow & quality, spool gun = Production. Maybe he's worried about production, talk to him and see, maybe there's a middle road. OT, but just purchased the 375 exteme, awsome little package. Wish you luck in your endeavors!

Reply:backuproller, I have both, when I need to do thinner and more precision work I use the TIG. When the material gets to 1/8 or thicker then the spool gun works real well, and is so much quicker and still gives me a quality job. I hope this helps, works for me. |
