What are the effect of too much gas flow when mig welding?  How do you determine the proper amount of gas flow needed?
Reply:Of course you'd have to use real numbers at some point to define "too much" when we are normally down the the range used for welding. First effects will be a slight tug on your billfold. Using gas at twice the suggested rate will cost twice as much with little to no additional beneifits. Second effects of higher flows will be quick chilling of the weld puddle, which may or may not have a significant impact on the integrity. Higher yet and there could be some actual turbulance and intermittent ventury effect sucking air in from surrounding environment at various points and times. Ugly dark looking weldment with some lava looking flows instead of a wetting out.
