welding term???

I am wondering what is meant by the "throat" of the weld. I asked a question to a welding engineer, and he mentioned that term. Thanks for any info! Also, thanks to those who answered my gouging question. DAD.
Reply:Easiest to see with a fillet weld: Think of the cross section of the weld as the largest triangle you can fit in the weld metal, with one corner at the root. The throat is the distance from the corner at the root to the opposite side. This is in the goemetric sense, so you are looking at the shortest line distance.
Reply:This is a low quality cut and paste of fillet in a T configuration joint. I've tried to depict the throat in red.  Photo editing isn't one of the things I do well at all. Pic is courtesy of lincoln electric. Attached Images
