Any comments on which one is better and why? I'm trying to work a deal on a Miller Big 40 that is currently stored at my place, but I see lots of interest in the SA 200 machines and parts etc on here. The Big 40 is an older gas machine with the 4 cyl Contenential Red Seal enigine, runs good. It needs some wheels too.... gotta get it on some kind of trailer got ideas ? Thanks SamNot a beginner, not a pro !
Reply:The big 40's were 400 amp machines and had enough reserve power for arc air gouging and large welding rods. They are an ideal machine for heavy equipment repair. In the eighties many pipeliners were hungry for work and came into the area where I lived trying to do logging equipment repairs from their trucks. Their 200 amp machines could not take the large rods and heavy gouging. If you are doing small work and only using 1/8th electrodes the big 40 is overkill. Both are good machines for their applications. |
