A public thank you for the "class" you graciously provided last Sat.  Although I could only spend 2 1/2 hours, I learned at least 5 things about tig welding not learned in my comm college class, along with hands-on tips from Zap, Lorenzo and Luzard.  I heartily recommend attendance at his next class if you can--   and practice, practice, practice, practice. (By the way, when I got home to Phoenix Monday the temp was a sunny 73 F.)Darryl
Reply:Very cool. I hope to attend next time and maybe Zapper can set the time up a little later so I don't have to leave at 4 a.m.  Nah, I just need to find a sitter for my son. One that will watch him on the weekend. Were you up here on business or just came up for the class? Drive or fly? Kinda cool he had someone from Arizona attend...that's a good distance away. Oh ya - you suck, it's 12 degress here now. John -  fabricator extraordinaire, car nut!-  bleeding Miller blue! http://www.weldfabzone.com

Reply:I just learned some simple things--like feeding the filler from the SIDE of the puddle rather than directly into it; using helium+argon for aluminum; a better technique for feeding the filler thru my hand; checking water connection to the torch handle; bevelling aluminum with a grinding wheel using canning wax to keep the AL from gumming up the wheel; using 5356 for AL castings; using smaller cups on the torch.  Also confirmed my impression that thoriated tungsten probably most versatile. Just watching Zapster was a treat.  He makes it look so easy.  We flew from PHX to Hartford to visit my son's family and our grandaughter's 4th  B'day in Westfield, MA.  The drive on the Mass Trnpk to 491 to US 1 was 97 miles.  We hope to get to Boston in late July for a professional meeting, so-----Last edited by sail2u; 01-31-2007 at 03:35 AM.
