I borrowed a mig welder from a friend of mine and everything was going fine until I ran out wire and put in a new spool, now when I go to start the bead it pops and then melts the wire into the tip. Any suggestions.
Reply:try tightening the tension adjustment on the wire feederalso is the wire the correct diameter..if ya bought smaller the tension may help also check the rollers...some of the smaller welders come with feed wheels with multiple size grooves in em.If it was just the tension dont over do it tighten it enough so that u can put a bit of drag on the spool and it still feeds...if ya over tighten it and ya kill a tip later u can trash the liner also if its flux core u can smash the wireps also if your just starting try to keep a big loop in the gun no sharp bends or such as it will cause additional drag on the wire and feeding problems as well as possible damage to the liner if its sharply kinked....try to keep the gun loops say at least 2ft circle or more when storing alsoLast edited by ridgerunner; 01-31-2007 at 08:40 PM.
