Howdy chaps, been welding with my machine for years, no drama's (migmag 200C) and in the last week the amount of purosity is just about out of control,  So could someone please remind the basic causes of it and what I can do to fix it  . fyi, I've not adjusted any settings, either machine or argon meter , the only change that I can think of is and that cant be it is I've changed workshops, over to you chaps.I own a 87 troopie (rust is slowly owning it  )I ride a quadand I love sticking metal together.  And I live in OZ...  (Geelong)
Reply:You haven't adjusted the gas, but what is it at?  The single-stage regulators on most of these might require small amount of readjustment as the cylinder pressure drops. You've changed workshops.  Did the porosity start at the same time?  What are the wind currents like in your new shop?We are assuming that you are welding steel with an appropriate argon MIX, right?

Reply:Did you change gas suppliers? When you set up your new shop, did you check all the gas connections for leaks?Really sounds like a shielding gas issue.
Reply:Some times gases will seperate in the cylinder......... which will cause problems_________________Chris
Reply:You moved the welder too? The machine end of the gun and O ring seated properly??
Reply:still the same gas supplier, and never heard of gas seperating, this will sound stupid, but do I give the bottle a shake or roll it on the round to "mix" it back up...  thanks for all the help guys and yes I feel its a sheilding issue, just annoying having to grind out the welds when its so easy for the mig. And not had the problem before or been able to fix simply and easy, thats the hard part.I own a 87 troopie (rust is slowly owning it  )I ride a quadand I love sticking metal together.  And I live in OZ...  (Geelong)

Reply:I don't know how much 15 LPM is, but 15 CFH is plenty, perhaps you could try turning it down.DavidReal world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:sounds like you have air getting in the line somehow.  Check the hose and fittings b/w machine and tank, then check b/w machine and gun.  Sounds like the only culprit to me.  something might have shaken loose, or you might have loose connections or a hole in a line.

Reply:Actually I had the same problem a few months ago..... ended up buying a new gun... problem solved_________________Chris
Reply:If you have ever checked the gas flow with your hand before, you would know if it is the same now, otherwise put a plastic bag over the nozzle and see about how much comes out (fills the bag). Could be the holes got plugged or maybe the solenoid calved. It's a long shot but, is the voltage ok in the new shop?Man invented metal, he can do whatever he wants with it.KMAC
