I have a sealed container of Thermacote-  WelcoSupermissileweld.  1/8 diameterCan anyone tell me what this is.The flux coating is pink.  and has Super Missileweld printed on it.Is it stainless steel? The instructions says it can be used on stainless and over 50 different steels.
Reply:Found a MSDS showing that J.W. HARRIS CO., INC. made this and a UltraSuperMissileWeld.http://www.msdsonline.com/binder/sco...nder_id=000158The chemistry range listed on the MSDS is too broad to know exactly what this is, but looks like a 300 stainless steel.  304 is your basic 18 Cr / 8 Ni, and this is 11-30 Cr / 1-10 Ni.Another link:http://www.millermotorsports.com/mbo...ad.php?p=74645Originally Posted by Billet Benny  "Also, super missile that you talk about is pretty much nothing more than 312 stainless with an interesting name to make it sound mysterious and sell well. That's really all it is. It's not super and it doesn't shoot planes out of the sky, it's really just a stainless steel alloy. It may not be the exact same in chemical make up, but it is very very close."
Reply:wow..and i thought i was the only one that ever used it..we still have some at the shop..its nothing special as pulser pointed out..but it does burn nice... ...zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:It’s sure a bear to rework something once it’s been welded by “miracle” electrode.Did you put that in there zap?
Reply:Did you put that in there zap?
Reply:Did you put Missile weld in, that I had to cut out ?!?Probably not, wouldn’t have broken again if you had repaired it.How about “stainless dude” bigger than life for the rezoned complex?
Reply:Thanks for your help in identifying this for meIt is slightly magneticCan I use it to weld 304 stainless steel wire basketsWill sulphuric acid affect it?
Reply:Many years ago Eutetec had a high dollar filler called 680.  If I remember correctly It was great for welding two different types of steel together.  They has good info on proper proceedures.  It really welds nice.  Just a few years ago while at the welding supply I asked the counter man if he had an equivilent rod to the 680 and he sold me some of the Super Missile weld.  It also welded very nicely.
Reply:We used that in the shop one time to repair an old tractor part.  I think it has a 700,000 psi tensile strength or somethin like that.  It runs nice and smooth though.
Reply:70,000 psi, that's what most 300 series stainless welds are.  I think the strongest possible theoretical steel alloy is 400-450 psi based on values predicted from hardness (not really possible to tensile test).
