I think I'm slowly getting it

So my wife and I have been gearing up for a festival in Salem OR this weekend, where we hope to sell many drums.  The drum I make have three rings each and I usually make 6 to 8 sets a month.  I've made 24 sets in the last week , w/ persistence and help from you folks , I finally started making welds today that I knew were good before I even wire brushed them.  This may be common for some of you pros but I get one or two of those seemingly perfect welds every few months if I'm lucky.......but today I did 16 rings one melted through two gave me a hard time one doesn't sound right when I hit it on the ground(but it wont break) and all the rest came off like I was doing something I was actually good at.  Thank for all the help , I'm making stands later today after I sleep and wake up so I'll be treading water again real soon , and coming round looking for more help.  Thanks again

Reply:When you learn to watch the puddle of molten metal flow into the base metal and move consistantly you will know when you just made a good weld before you lift your helmet.

Reply:one more addition here, so I was selling drums at a festival in Salem OR and saw a little kid climb my drum stand like a tree and start playing my drum.  I got him off of it right away , but I was soooo stoked to see the stand take the abuse and not be affected.
