Do all 14 pin finger tip control units work with other machines that have 14 pin receptacles? Thinking esab, miller, etc. Thanks, JF
Reply:I believe only Miller has the standard 14-pin connector...I may be wrong. But if they have the same plug they should work. However, there are only a couple wires that are actually doing anything with a finger tip control. If it doesn't fit then by a female connector that fits into your fingertip controller, then connect those wires to the appropriate wires on a male connector that fits your welder. The companies will give you the specs, and like I said it's like 3 wires. So even if you know where they go but not which ones a quick trial/error a couple of times and you will have it working. That is a problem I have now. I need to adapt a thermalarc connector to a miller 14-pin.
Reply:are you talking about variable amperage finger remotes or momentry switches (used with slope up/down etc) ?the connectors for amptrols do vary. i wouldn't be surprised if the potentiometer ranges also variedmomentry switches only us 2 wires regardless of the connecter- whether the same pins are used is another thing, albeit one that should be easy to fix.they only list foot remotes but SSCcontrols will give you an idea of whats what...http://www.ssccontrols.com/homepage-...ngcontrols.htm
Reply:You need to look at two things.1. Find out what valule of potentiometer your welder requires, my Thermal Arc for instance needs a 10 K ohm pot.2. Find the wiring diagram showing the pin connections for your welder. Two pins are for the On/Off contactor, and three pins are for the current control pot.The 14 pin connector is irrelevant, you can change the connector to match your welder.Last edited by pulser; 07-09-2007 at 11:10 AM.
Reply:What Pulser said...All I can add is... I really wish these welding companies could decide on ONE 14-pin configuration and all use the SAME one. Just about every brand has a 14-pin connector, but most do not interchange. They have the same number of pins and same size/shape connector, but the pin locations are 'clocked' differently and the connectors from different brands don't usually plug into eachother.
