hello out there well my old sae 300 finaly wore out , has any one out there had any experience in swapping the contenental for a 240 ford 6 ?
Reply:I can say a little about the flywheel coupling part of your swap.If you don't want to hunt for other parts which would make it a bolt in swap. You can modify what you have and be able to use original starter and flywheel.Start by centering  the Cont block plate to the 300 block. Block plate from 302 351 makes a nice template that will get you real close for the patten. Drill two holes just big enough to allow 1/4 bolt and nut to be used during alignment.  Mount a scribe on your crankshaft with a dial indicator mount, rotate engine,(with spark plugs out), get plate centered within .010 or less. Tighten 1/4 bolts.  Transfer Ford bolt and dowel pattern to Cont plate.Measure from crank flange to block surface on Cont. This dimension needs to be kept the same when fitting flywheel to Ford. You must precision center and redrill Cont flywheel with Ford pattern. You will be able to use original starter and flywheel, no parts hunting.  I may have the crank flange dimensions, I can look.Neither Cont F or Ford 240 is externally balanced.Ford engine a bit longer and taller, may be a tight fit, will outlast five of the... (never mind).Save Continental for use as anchor!Last edited by denrep; 08-04-2007 at 11:55 AM.

Reply:For the flywheel modification, I know a shop you could ship to, they have dimensions. Or cut the crank flange out of a junk 6 or 302 351, use as pattern.

Reply:Ahhh Denrep...Ford man all the way!! ...zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
