What surface/table to weld on?

n00b welder here.Presently all I've really got in my garage are work benches made from wood.  Should I weld on my concrete floor?  I want to fabricate a nice big working table but it may be a little while until I can get that done.Chicken, meet egg.  Thank you.
Reply:Welding on the wood is a no-no.  Welding on the floor will destroy the floor.  When in a pinch, I weld on top of bricks.
Reply:Just get some plate steel and put it on top of your wooden tables
