These are Lincoln descriptions of their line of electrodes for mild steel. In general what do they mean. Thanks, jwr2200.Fast Freeze,Fast Fill,Fill Freeze
Reply:The terms fast freeze, fast fill, and fill freeze are generic terms to describe stick electrode filler metal transfer characteristics.  They apply to every brand, not just Lincoln Electric.WeldingWeb forum--now more sophomoric banter than anything else!
Reply:Fast freeze rods solidify quickly.  They go from molten to solid very rapidly.  6010/6011 are examples of fast freeze rods.Fast Fill rods melt fast and have a higher disposition rate.  7024 is an example of a fast fill rod.  They melt fast but can only be used in limited positions.  Usually flat, sometimes horizontal.Fill Freeze is a cross between the two.  It burns fairly fast but freezes fairly fast as well and can be used in all or many positions.  Examples of these types of rods are 6012, 6013, 7014

Reply:btw, although XX18 series rods like 7018, 9018, 11018 etc... are generally classified separately as simply a "Low Hydrogen Rod" they have pretty much the same characteristics as a fill-freeze rod.
Reply:I had to dig this info off my hd from my old web site from years ago...Welding rod usually goes E(Electrode), PSI(X1000), Position, Current and Coating, Chemical Composition, H and then R.RodPSI 60,70,80,90,100,110Position0: the classification is not used1: all positions2: flat and horizontal positions only3: flat position only4: vertical down position onlyCurrent and Coating10: DC+ ..................................................  . Note: These are generalizations and the actual chemistry of the welding rods will differ from manufacturer to manufacturer.Cellulose Sodium (10): The cellulosic material of up to 30% comes from wood flour which causes a gas shield of carbon dioxide and hydrogen, which are reducing agents. This type of coating provides good penetration welding properties. Though the weld is rough and the splatter is higher than most electrodes is provides good mechanical properties. It is suitable for downhill welding.Cellulose Potassium (11): Similar to cellulose sodium, more potassium is used than sodium which makes this a good AC rod. Iron powder is sometimes used to help the arc stabilization and deposition rate.Titania (Rutile) Sodium (12): With a high titanium content, this electrode is easily controllable. Relatively low voltage, low level of splatter, quiet arc, smooth weld and high rate of deposition make this an appealing rod.Titania (Rutile) Potassium (13): Similar to titania sodium, potassium makes it more suitable for AC welding.Titania (Rutile) iron powder (4): The addition of iron powder (25% and above) make this a good rod for high deposition rates. As mentioned above, 50% and above of iron powder content limits the positions to horizontal and flat (XX24).Low Hydrogen Sodium (5): High content of calcium carbonate or calcium fluoride make this rod a low hydrogen electrode for superior weld properties. Special welding techniques must be used to produce quality welds. Also, storage must be in controlled conditions.Low Hydrogen Potassium (6): Using potassium makes this rod more suitable with A.C.Low Hydrogen Potassium (6*): With adding iron powder with a content of 35% to 40%, this rod is considered to be in the XX18 family.Low Hydrogen Iron Powder (28): With 50% or more iron powder, similar to xx18, this rod is only suitable for horizontal and flat positions with a high deposition rate.Iron Oxide Sodium (20): High iron oxide content causes large amounts of slag that can be difficult to control. High speed deposition, medium penetration and low splatter levels result in a smooth finish.Common sense in an uncommon degree is what the world calls wisdom.
Reply:Whoah whoah whoah!  Hehe, too much info!  Interesting read, but probably overwhelming to most.
