I am doing some questions at home for my apprenticeship but their are 3 that I am either confused about or dont understand. Any help would be appreciated!  1. True or False - GMAW machine can be used for both GMAW & MMAW?2. Name 3 harmfull rays generated by the elecrtic arc & for each, list their effects on body3. Using the headlines below describe how the welding fumes and gases are removed from the welders breathing zone.a. Natural ventilationb. Exhaust systemsc. Respirators
Reply:a. Natural ventilation - Open doors?b. Exhaust systems - Sucking/Blowing fumes away from working area?c. Respirators - Blocking fumes from welders breathing space?
Reply:This isn't something you should be asking here.  You really need to do your own homework.  I doubt you will get the help on this forum.

Reply:Which text book have you got? The answers are in the book.City of L.A. Structural; Manual & Semi-Automatic;"Surely there is a mine for silver, and a place where gold is refined. Iron is taken from the earth, and copper is smelted from ore."Job 28:1,2Lincoln, Miller, Victor & ISV BibleDanny
Reply:I agree, an apprentice needs to learn for himself, NOT have someone else learn for him. School of hard knocks, lesson 2.  Search these forums, search your favorite search engine. The easy answer isn't always the best answer. John -  fabricator extraordinaire, car nut!-  bleeding Miller blue! http://www.weldfabzone.com

Reply:This is a forum for sharing welding projects and knowledge. That doesn't mean we are gonna spoonfeed every brand new member with test answers. None of those questions are difficult, if you put ANY effort into it you will find the answers.Cheaters never prosper.Last edited by Joe H; 08-12-2007 at 12:23 AM.Miller EconotigCutmaster 38Yes ma'am, that IS a screwdriver in my pocket!
Reply:Yep, the answers are in the book you had to buy when you started your apprenticeship. Maybe you need to read your book instead of message boards.Anything worth doing is worth doing RIGHT

Reply:[QUOTE=Joe H]This is a forum for sharing welding projects and knowledge. QUOTE]Sorry, I thought it was entitled "General Welding questions"
Reply:This is no means of cheating. Asking weather a Mig welder can be used through a "Stick" welder is for my own knowledge aswell. I am serving an adult apprenticeship & study by myself at work & at home through excersise books.
Reply:Flounders:First, a little history... there have, over the years, been a fair number of students coming here looking for someone to do their homework. Some going as far as to ask for 500 words about such-and-such. Many of the people here are a little sensitive about this,  and have the first response be 'read the book'. How might this be handled better? I don't know. That tends to be my response, at times, as well. What you might do to get more useful (to you, and to others) responses, now that you know the history, is start by doing a forum search, and then present questions in a form like 'I know that GMAW uses a constant voltage source. Since MMAW uses a constant current source, I (think/don't think) that a GMAW source can be used for MMAW. Is this correct?'As for the question about 3 harmful rays, let me ask YOU why do we wear sunglasses? Why do we get sunburn and suntan? Why do we not stick out heads in an operating electric oven? How does a television remote work? A surgical laser? And I will refer you to posts on this forum from the last couple months. The last one, I leave as an excercise, with only the questions which will be most effective at protecting the welder? Which will be least comfortable? Most comfortable? Most expensive? Least expensive?
Reply:Boy howdy, you all sure are tough on a guy.Flounder,I think it's OK to ask questions you don't know on a forum even if they are for tests. I dont think Flounders is looking to have people do his work for him. Part of learning in school is not just memorizing facts, but learning where to go to find information. Forums are one of those places. At work I will get e-mails from people in industry who obviously are just wanting quick answers to test questions. I don't think that kind of approach is appropriate. Other times (such as with Flounder) it may be someone who just doesn't know where to turn to find the correct answers. If you do find yourself in a situation where you just don't know where to look, it is sometimes best to give the question and ask where to find a good reference for the answers, but be aware that you will be expected to do the leg work yourself.Last edited by reddoggoose; 08-12-2007 at 11:16 AM.Arguing with a Welding Engineer is like wrestling with a pig... after a while you realize the pig likes it

Reply:Hey Flounders, If you haven't found the answers already, google them.  Sometimes even though I was staring at the answer in school it didn't make sense to me.  Takes my brain a lot longer to wrap around some of the welding info.Don't let these guys scare you.  Just think before you post.  Been there.Laura MM 180Chop SawDewalt grinderhelpful husband

Reply:Pretty much from speeking to welders at work, I found out that there are machines that do use both Stick & Mig. (I hope this isnt cheating) I seen a beauty of a machine yesterday that can do Stick, Mig (Flux etc), Tig, & submerged arc. What a beast! It also has 2 wire feeders for both solid & flux wires (Obviously with 2 guns)
