I have a O/A torch and I think the Oxygen regulator may be going out, When I set the output pressure it will bleed off to zero when I hit the cutting torch lever. The O/A outfit was the best Craftsman had about 25 years ago. I just priced the oxygen regulator on sears site and it is 186 bucks just for the oxygen regulator. I am thinking that the diaphragm may have a small crack from becoming brittle form sitting for so long with no use. I thought I would be able to get a rebuild kit or something for this regulator but have had no luck.Does anyone have a source or suggestion as to were I might be able to score a rebuilt kit for this regulator.
Reply:Sears parts tend to be very expensive. Have you priced a new regulator from your LWS or online?
Reply:Yes I have priced a new regulator, I can get a nice Victor for about 75 bucks but the regulators I have are nice 2 stage units, I would like to keep them going if at all possible. I was hoping I could get a new diaphragm for a few bucks.
Reply:Firstly, I highly recommend that you take it to a shop and have it checked out by a pro. Rebuilding them isn't tough, but a mistake can lead to serious damage to you and your property. Regulators gone bad sounds like a lowbrow TV show, but is more likely to be a horror movie. That said:There are a few places online that will sell you kits for some regulators. If you can identify the actual manufacturer of the regulator, you may get lucky. Most of the manufacturers DON'T sell repair parts to the public nor do their dealers) due to the risks from improperly done work.
Reply:Thanks for the warning, So I take it you don't know were I can get a kit so I can rebiuld this thing. |
