I want to (static) hydro test a joint in 1/2" cu tubing (very hard to get at - against a wall and only an inch above the floor). Any thoughts on a material I can stuff in the tube to plug it, that doesn't have to be retrieved? It has to get pushed through a 90 elbow. Its in a home heating system with a hot water boiler. Thanks.
Reply:Can you solder on a cap?Real world weldin. When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:Can you use an expanding test plug? Not real pricey.
Reply:Cant you just turn the water on?If you get wet, bad joint...On a related note, if you ever need to solder a pipe that the water just wont drain totally out of stuff some white bread in it about 6" from the joint. It will absorb the water long enough for you to make a good joint and then let it flush it's self out of the line.Me!
Reply:Most hardware store or plumbing supply store will have a heat resistent mat that you can place between the pipe and the wall. Wedge the pipe an inch or so away from the wall and this is a do able solder joint. Not as easy but possible.
Reply:Good old sheet rock will also work.Me!

Reply:Get some hose that will fit the copper pipe and use a hose clamp to attach, then plug the other end of the hose. |
