I was looking at the miller 12vs suitcases and they have a triggerhold option but I can't figure out what it is. It adds a couple hundred dollars to the total price so I imagine it is something significant. I figured it could be something with the gun, but the gun is an option, it is a feature of the feeder itself. What is it?
Reply:Its an option that makes it a 4 step trigger. Pull the trigger, start to weld, let go and it keeps welding until you pull it again. My LN9-GMA has that option. Not used much.DavidReal world weldin. When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:Triggerhold is a control that allows you to release the trigger on the gun just after you have started to weld and the machine continues to weld. Then when you are finished with the weld and you want to stop, pull the trigger, and the machine stops. I guess this reduces hand fatigue when you are welding long beads and don't want to have to maintain pressure on the trigger of the gun. Some people like it, some people never use it.
Reply:Hmm. I do a lot of long continuous multipass welds and that would come in handy. There are times that the trigger slips out of my finger and I have to hurry up and hit it again while the puddle is still molten but still have to hit it with a grinder afterwards which never looks as good as a continuous weld. That would be useful, but not sure if it is worth the couple hundred dollar increase in price...Thanks for the quick replies guys and gals.
Reply:I used to use a Bernard gun that the trigger would lock on by pushing it forward. It was nice to give your finger a break. I also remember the little suitcase type welders having a similar feature, but as long as the arc was maintained, it would keep going. If you pulled the gun back real quick, and broke the arc, it would stop feeding.
Reply:DetailerDave, ya, that's the feature I am talking about. Sounds useful.
Reply:There are two types of triggerhold. You can buy a gun with a trigger that can be slipped forward to hold it in the "on" position. If you don't have a gun with that feature, there are machines that let you do that with a regular gun. |
