Howdy All, This a complete novice question so bear with me here. I start welding classes this Wednesday and one of the pieces of gear we have to have are cutting goggles. Is there only one shade level for these (Hope my terminology is correct) My welding hood is a 10 and I just want to make sure I have all of the right stuff on the first day. Thanks,Craig
Reply:No, the shade lense is replaceable, as is the clear protective lense. I have 2 cutting goggles of my own, the ones at school and the ones at work are always JUNK! One set of mine has a flip up shade lense, and one does not. I use a shade number 5 lense for cutting, you may need lighter or darker to suit your vision. An electronic welding hood may be another way to go, adjustable shade numbers and all, I have yet to buy an electronic hood for myself, but it's on the list!City of L.A. Reply:I'd recommend getting your goggles from a welding supplier. You may pay more, but cheap ones like those sold by HF and other Chinese importers don't fit well and probably don't protect well either. I bought a two pack at HF and just thew them in a drawer after trying them with my plasma cutter - not worth the gasoline to return them for a refund.TeddCoHTP Microcut 400 & Invertig 160DC Smith Dual Guard MD-510 OA Rig Lincoln SP135+ Hobart Stickmate LX 235/160
Reply:Thanks for the info. There is a welding supply shop about 5 miles from where I live so I will run by there on Tuesday.Craig |
