How come its so hard to find a place that fills tanks (argon/co2)? Most of the places around me (central florida)just swap tanks.
Reply:Swapping is easier. It also gets you up and running faster. Nothing wrong with swapping. That is all I do with all of mine. I am going to have to get one filled and I'm not too happy about it. It will take a day and two trips. But, it isn't much more than a slight hassle I suppose. I will at least get a small bottle of my spray mix.
Reply:The local Airgas will fill my tanks. They say it will take about a week so I swap my customer owned tanks for other customer owned tanks. Most people do that nowadays.Miller Millermatic 252Miller Syncrowave 200Liincoln AC-DC 225Victor O-A Set
Reply:Most small compressed gas places outsource their filling. That is why they offer swap only.John - fabricator extraordinaire, car nut!- bleeding Miller blue! http://www.weldfabzone.com
Reply:My boss tells me we own outright all the various tanks we have..That means we actually have double of what is in the shop..The others are at the supply house and when we call we usually get...4 Oxygen2 Accetelyne..1 Argon..Dropped off at the same time..However we always have a spare Argon at the shop for that time when we run out.....zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.

Reply:It may be an unusual situation, but one local welding supplier here in Augusta GA is right next door to a compressed gas plant run by Air Liquide or Linde. They take my personally owned cylinders (with SS owner tags on cylinder and valve cap) and return them - no swap outs. Ar and Ar/CO2 refills are usually ready next day; tri-mix may take a week until they get enough cylinders to run a batch. Don't have OA rig. You might find a similar setup by calling welding suppliers or local plants of big name compressed gas companies.TeddCoHTP Microcut 400 & Invertig 160DC Smith Dual Guard MD-510 OA Rig Lincoln SP135+ Hobart Stickmate LX 235/160
Reply:My local gas passer will do it either way. I opt for the fill and pick it up later that day to keep my same tank. He does all of the filling and mixing right onsite. For some reason I just can't bear to turn in my brand new tank that he made me buy and get a ratty old beat up one in return. I feel cheated if I don't get back a pristine tank. I wish he would offer a lower buy in rate and then just swap tanks. If he did then I would have a couple more tanks at the house with a different mix.MichaelMillermatic 25115" Rockwell Drill Press10" Logan Lathe5hp - 2-stage 80 Gallon CompressorHome Made Sand / Soda Blaster |
