As a total Newbie I would like an idea what to start withI have a 160 amp, invertor DC stick welderI will be welding mostly 2 mm( dunno the imperial equivalent) thick sqaure tubingWhat welding rods, what current and what else would I need to use to have a reference point to start off with.I know its different for most applications etc, however i would rather start trying with an educated point of reference rather than guessing, newbie style.Any other advice will be very welcome.Last edited by KangaWolf; 09-18-2007 at 11:28 AM.
Reply:2mm = .080" give or take a thousandth. Probably 50 to 80 amps depending on how you weld. Its gonna be tough if you are just starting out. 1/16" rod at the lower amp rating to start.David Real world weldin. When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:As a beginner, I'd try 6013, I found it far far easier than the 6010 that everyone seems to love.2mm is just under 3/32, I'd go for a rod about the same size as the material thickness. Maybe 70 amps or so? you'll get a feel for the amps required as soon as you start burning holes in your material that's my 2 cents and that's probably 2 cents more than it's worth.- John
Reply:Ya, just as it has been mentioned before...Turn the heat way DOWN, strike (try to anyway) an arc.Turn the heat way UP, strike an arc. From there, you'll just play with the heat and travel of your rod. You'll learn as you go. That's pretty much how I learned it. Good luck and have fun!***Stick welding like, woah.***
Reply:Thanks guys your all popstars
Reply:I'm a drummer......zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:thats about what i started with also. and i found that a 1.6 or a 2.0 mm rod was a good place to starthttp://datingsidorsingel.com/
Reply:Get your self a bunch of different rods ( 6013, 6011, 7014, 7018, 7024, etc...) in 3/32 and 1/8 and have a day with them. You will soon find what you like and stick with it.Disclaimer; "I am just an a$$hole welder, don't take it personally ." |
