I have an old Lincoln weldanpower ac225 generator welder. I am wondering what I can do to use this as a MIG or is it even possible? Can I just hook up any wire feeder? I don't know anything about this, please help.Last edited by ajholt7; 09-22-2007 at 09:08 AM.
Reply:You said ac225. Is it DC too?DavidReal world weldin. When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:Yes it is.
Reply:If it's the CC\CV model like this, you're all set. Just hook on a wire feeder like the LN-15 or LN-25.WeldingWeb forum--now more sophomoric banter than anything else!
Reply:With this type of set up don't you have to maintain a uniform arc length in order to get good results. I've used the miller suitcase welder with a portable power supply before and found the heat to be all over the place...especially if you alter the arc length.

Reply:Where can I find a cheap used wire feeder that will work? Will any wire feeder work? What do I look for?
Reply:I have the same machine. It welds wire awesome. Set the machine and feeder on CV. You will need feeder with the wire that takes its power from your welding ground. I hook the wire directly to the ground clamp, not the work. A hobart hefty or lincoln LN-25 would be best. It will work better than some shop welders.DavidReal world weldin. Reply:A Hefty or LN25 are voltage sencing feeders and only maintain voltage by electrical stick out (ESO). not very good for a beginner. Always for wire a CV machine and a standard feeder are the best. Only spray or FCAW are suitable for voltage sencing feeders.

Reply:David I agree. I use VS feeders all day long. They run CC, Globular, and Spray without a problem.
