I came across about 50 pounds of 7018 rod for the great price of FREE! The only problem is that these rods were not kept properly. They were kept in open plastic bags or tubes withoutthe cap. The visual check showed that the flux isn't discolored cracking. I ran a random sample earlier today and they seem to be running fine. They did throw more than usual spatter. (probably me)I was wondering is it possible to drive out the moisture these rods sucked up? I am thinkng of popping about half in the oven at 450 for a few hours and then holding it at 250 for a couple more. Opinions?
Reply:Typically codes call for low hydrogen electrodes to be reconditioned no more than 3 time and out of an electrode oven for no more than two hours. I would say if your doing non critical welds. Welds that don't have to pass a deconstructive test or an xray you should be in pretty good shape.

Reply:Thanks guys. The Mrs will be away this weekend helping her mother. So I will "bake" some rod and try it against the raw stuff just to see if there is a difference in the way they run. Go1lum, you are right I am not doing anything really critical.
