I recently sent in a resume for a job as a fabricator at the well known race team.I was called in for an interview which I gladly went to. Looks like it could be a good place to work.Question is, I was the first one that was called for an interview, is that a good, bad or a sign that means nothing?s.r.

Reply:Don't forget to send a thank you note and express interest in the position.
Reply:done, done and done
Reply:Being first is usually the luck of the draw, don't read too much in to it. If you were the only one called in .............Good luck.
Reply:No sign, You get the chance to be the 1st guy who made the great impression. Dress professional, have all your ppwk, portfolios, etc. At the end of the interview thank them for considering you and tell them you look forward to working with them. Ask them when its ok to follow up, then do it, send thank you letter.Good luck. I hope you get it.Laura MM 180Chop SawDewalt grinderhelpful husband
Reply:Originally Posted by RojodiabloIt means you got looked at. That's always a good thing. Did you show any pics of your work to them?? I work for me, but I do subcontract for several different companies from time to time. I have pics of my work on disks. I keep my welding/ fab work in a file, my contruction interior in a file, my exterior construction in a file. When a person wants me to interview, as it were, I have been referred to someone, I will bring a disk for them to look at on their computer. You can copy your resume on a Word document, and have it on the disk, also. This way, there is no mistaking who's work it is they are looking at. And, make sure you use very good photos, some with large scale, some of very good detail work. Hope it went well for you!!! Paul.
Reply:I sent photos with the initial resume, I do beleive that helped when they started looking through their piles.
Reply:Good luck to ya.As an employer, I saw the guy that kept coming back to see what is up as the one that WANTS the job. Put your best foot forward.David Real world weldin. When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:Find out everything you can about the company or race team you can. Tell them ABOUT THEM when saying why you want to be part of the team. Act excited, but don't over do it. Look the the interviewer in the eye, don't stare at you shoes. Dress like you mean business, they do. Be ready to tell them what you will bring to the team and how you can help them. Do not talk money, vacations, sick pay right off. The really good sign is when at the end of the interview, they tell you about the compensation package.Oh yeah, if they don't request, it may be a good idea to offer them a demo of your skills.Good luck.

Reply:Originally Posted by RojodiabloYes, it is different, but I tell you, it works just bitchin' ! They get the disk, and at 5:30, when they are thinking about all this other stuff, going over paperwork, my disk winds up in the computer, and all the pics are my work. Some are from start to finish, some are before& after, some are just really goood shots of wild plumbing, tube runs, etc. I had one company tell me they were looking at about 4 other estimates, and the whole time MY pictures were playing a slideshow right in front of them. Pretty soon, they just put the other bids in a trashcan, and gave me the nod. If you have a bunch of really good pics, it will make a difference. |
