I am wanting to get my set up to run some gas 25/75. Thus far I have been using flux core only. It seems without a lot of knowledge, that the decisions to use some gas is confusing. it seems prices on renting, filling, buying a bottle, flucuates very much. Nothing I can put my finger on.      However, I want to go this step. Can someone please give me some expected prices to getting set up with a tank whether to buyor rent and etc. What will it take up front to get it going as far as a bottle, and the gas and refilling. thanksBrian
Reply:Your post carries the implication that you've already seen the range of prices.  How do you expect us to get more specific if you don't tell us where you are located?Put it in your profile so that it shows up on every post.
Reply:In the Gulf Coast area, a Cylinder Icc 2400 (large) $175.00 +- $50 and the contense $35 to $50 a cyl.  To rent you will have to put up a deposit of approx the price of the cylinder and $15.oo per month rent.  These are approx. and could change in different areas.   JohnSMAW,GMAW,FCAW,GTAW,SAW,PAC/PAW/OFCand Shielding Gases.  There all here. :
Reply:Small 'homeowner' sized tank can run you about $100-$200 for the tank purchase.  That's for a tank in the 20-80 ft3 range.Gas price for that amount of C25 is about $30, give or take. And you -do- realize you could just go to a website like www.cyberweld.com or www.weldingsuppliesfromioc.com and get some of the same answers, right? If you go with straight CO2, the cost per amount of gas/weld is lower, but there is a bit more spatter than with C25.
Reply:In the Hobart forum, he's updated the thread to say that he's in West Virginia, with two LWS and a Tractor Supply.  Anybody near there?
Reply:CO2 appears cheaper but is actually more expensive if you are running your mix at the right rate. I use an 80 I think?, lol, and it lasts a long time running 75/25. I usually run about 5 cubic ft an hour and have no problems. CO2 requires a much higher flow rate and doesn't weld as cleanly. I've used both at different shops I have worked in, but now that I pay the bills it's 75/25.
Reply:I checked today and actually run 1.25 cf/hour with 75/25. I gave about 250 each for my 140 cf bottles if I remember correctly, and I think the last fill of ar/co2 ran about 35 bucks for an 80cf bottle. The bigger your bottles are the cheaper the fills will be per cf.The difference between art and craft is the quality of the workmanship. I am an artist.
