Hello all... I really need some help from the experts on this. I recently inherited a DC stick welder from my father. He was a career welder and I've picked up a little welding experience from him. I'd like to use this welder, but I haven't been able to find a single shred of information on it. I'm not sure if it homeade or manufactured by a company. The back of the welder sais " D.C. ARC WELDER, MODEL R-1, SPEED 4000 RPM, ROTATION (with an arrow)". I have pictures of all angles if it would be helpful for identification. I'd really like to find out everything I can about it.Thanks all...
Reply:the more pictures, the better. from what i can see, and the little bit of knowledge i have, it looks like it was (at one time) a complete, generator-driven welder. the motor probably went, and someone had the small engine (that is on there now) just laying around. a little know-how and southern-boy engineering can get a small engine to hook up to a generator welder, similar to how it is currently arranged. my guess... it was a broken generator driven welder that someone "fixed" or modified it into it's current state. have you tried using it? my theory is that if it's 'aint broke, don't fix it. if you think you can make it better, go for it, but don't fix it if it 'aint broke.later,Andy

Reply:Thanks for your thoughts aczeller. I'm willing to take any ideas I can get. Its not often that you google something and come up with nothing. My dad put the new engine on the welder, but I'm not sure what powered it before. I've never seen the welder in use, nor did my father ever mention using it. I've had this welder for 2 days now and I haven't tried to use it. I was hoping to find some information on the welder first. It will take some work to get to it, but there's a plate attached to the motor that might shed some more light on the amperage I can expect. I'll post the information when I can. I'll attach a couple more pictures for future "lookers".Attachment 13726Attachment 13727
