First Tig Weldering

All,I've been doing alot of research and have decided that I want to step up to the next level and get a Miller Sychrowave 200 Tig welder. The reason I want to to get the TIG is that I want to weld aluminum - mostly thin stuff -- but occassionally will be welding "tabs" about a quarter inch thick onto a 3/8 flat stock alum material.  Will the Sychrowave 200 handle this?  Can anyone give me a rough estimate on how long it takes to get fairly proficient at being able to weld aluminum?  I know practice makes perfect .... but willing to put hours a day into it .... just wondering ....ThanksP.S.sorry about the typos on the subject; couldnt figure out how to change it once submitted

Reply:Have you ever Gas welded, if so, Tig is very close to being the same.  If not it will take some time to get where you want to be.  The 200 will do everything you mentioned.  John    SMAW,GMAW,FCAW,GTAW,SAW,PAC/PAW/OFCand Shielding Gases.  There all here. :
Reply:I have an Arcmaster 185 and its big enough for 1/4" aluminum.  I think the syncro is a good machine.How long will it take to learn?  who the heck knows?  DavidReal world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:Ya, welding all depends on the person.  I think I picked it up pretty quick, but who really knows.Although once you get the basics down, aluminum will give you the best looking beads with little practice.The syncro 200 should be more than capable of doing those.Have we all gone mad?
Reply:Well bare minimum it is a 200 amp machine and if memory serves correctly I think it's a bit higher but with a pretty low duty cycle at the upper limit. I mean come on it's a pro class machine not one of the dinkies from china.The difference between art and craft is the quality of the workmanship. I am an artist.
