I got a piece of stainless 5" pipe roughly 1/16" wall, I need a piece of 6" pipe,Can I take the 5, split it, then cut a strip out of another piece and weld it in the split after i Spread it? Roundness doesn't need to be perfect, its for a wood stove. Im figuring a 5" pipe has a circumference of 15.7" and a 6" has one of 18.84", so I need a strip 3.14" wide correct?
Reply:It will be pretty hard to spread it at the seam, but it would work, if you can anneal the steel after welding.
Reply:The tube I have now is DOM tube, 5" stainless, I cut off a 6" piece and tried it, Not worth the effort, ill just get a piece of 6"..
Reply:lemme know if you want a pattern. the possibilities of CAD are endless.later,Andy

Reply:he pulled it out of the trash so its pretty cheap Its around 1/16" wall what he brought me for the stove pipe. brought me an 18 foot piece. somethings wrong with the metal, didn't meet the buyers specs. He brought me 2 28 foot long 14" schedual 80 pipes(7/16-1/2 wall) that are 316 stainless a while back. They got used for culverts in the driveway.
