Reply:This will end up a Ford/Chevy debate... so pick one.  Were it me, I'd look for the machine that was AC/DC.
Reply:I don't know - I've never used either.  But why not add a Miller Thunderbolt into the mix.  I can vouch for it as a welder, and I think they make a cheap AC only welder if that's what you're looking for.  I also agree that an AC/DC welder would be more versatile, but there's nothing wrong with an AC buzz box for simple jobs.

Reply:I would say Hobart  just because of the infinitely variable amperage. I don't like the taps on the Linc. I find them way too limiting. When you are welding thin sheet, a change of a couple of amps can make a huge difference. The Linc will get it done, but the Hobart will do it easier simply due to the adjustment.I also say get the AC/DC.

Reply:Get DC whenever possible, and while I, too, prefer the continuously adjustable amperage on the Hobart, the truth is that when you can etll the difference with your hood down, you're ready for a better machine.But a lot of the Americas has built built by those types of machines.
