Climbing stick (bow hunter ideas needed)I want to build a bunch of climbing sticks to hunt with. I want to make them 16-20 feet high. I will make them in 4 foot sections. 1. What size and thickness square tubing would you recommended? The store-bought ones look like 1 square tubing with a wall thickness of 1/16.2. What size tubing would you recommended for the collar/sleeve for each section to slide into? (I want a tight fit)
Reply:1x1x16 ga square tube is about $8.50 or $9.00 per length (20 ft) in mild steel at cost... lots of guys in my shop use it to build tree stands. as far as making a good collar... try some 1.25x1.25x10 ga square stock... the inside dimension should be 1" sqaure. if you need to, grind down the smaller tube to slide in. you could also use some 1x1x1/4" angle welded onto opposing corners of the tube... then you are gaurenteed (spelling?) a good fit.Later,Andy |
