home welder set up

I am currently taking welding classes and want to have a home based welder to work with and do small projects on the side. I'm interested in TIG welding but having a stick for heavy stuff would be nice as well.Does anyone recommend a particular model or size? Im looking at under 800.00 ready to go.I hope this thread does not spark a heated miller/lincoln debate. . . resist the temptation to highjack it.Thanks-Mr. Avery
Reply:It's going to be tough to find a TIG/Stick combo, from the big 3, for $800 ready to go...unless you buy used. Buying used, it's probably going to lead you into the direction of something between 15 and 30 years old. Nothing wrong with an old Miller, Hobart or Lincoln but if you want new, you might have to hit up the import models. Reply:How about a Lincoln -miller -hobart debate. Just kidding, but I know you could get a nice wire machine and a stick machine from TSC for that kind of money .
