Reply:why on earth would you want to weld a razor blade to a boat anchor? The Welder Shop has great deals and reviews on Hobart, Miller and Lincoln Welders.
Reply:to reduce drag, of course
Reply:Or weld a razor blade to a torque-less, narrow torque band, over revving, can't keep the rods inside the block, noisy, can't start when cold out without the block heater, leaking, injector failing, short crank stroke, cracked fuel filter housing, crank trigger goes bad weekly, equipped with the most oversized catalytic converter in the world, blown head gasket, locked up oil pump, turbocharger failing, injector driver module failing, wishing it were a real inline-six cylinder Diesel engine.... Power Stroke boat anchor.
Reply:turbo..............i see you are a ford man toojust put a water pump and starter on my stroke today and waiting for the power steering bracket to come in cause mine broke.got to love em!!G3miller... 225g, s32p, 250x, 304, 12vs, MSW41     victor o/a thermal dynamics cutmaster 50 lenco panel spotter        hobart hf-boxG3 Farms.....raising cattle, hay, kids and hell, ...oh yeah I'm a fire sprinkler contractor by trade.

Reply:Dodge has always had a decent front end in terms of load capacity. they just needed better rubber in their bushings that "clunk" after 60,000 miles. Go ahead and put 1 ton in the bed of a 3/4 ton F-250 and watch the FRONT of the F-series bottom on the bump stops. The rear can hold 1 ton, but the front bottoms! WTF? You'd think the rear would bottom. If you want a "real" front end now- it's the new 5500 series Ram. 26,000 GVW and it's already been approved by Dodge for many dump, box body and ambulance builders to convert them. They're big underneath and can hold their own against the Kodiak chassis and without the large size body. About time! We've had many of the Rams through the shop that are in fire department service and I've never really experienced any "tin can" effect when shutting the door or driving them. They're actually quiet inside. They certainly hold the road and handle a load better than the F-series...and they don't automatically switch lanes when you drive over rough road surfaces. They ride smooth, but not as smooth as the 3/4 and 1-ton GM trucks. In my shop, we have a good variety of 3/4 and 1 tons from all three come in for conversions and get to drive them all when new and once in service for a while. Out of the 3/4 and larger, I'd take Dodge first and GM/Chevy second.Another note: Ford engineers even know the Powerjoke is a light duty engine and won't even put it in the larger trucks. What do they use? A Cummins. If you install any engine driven equipment such as large compressors, vacuum pumps, generators or such and the Powerstroke fails, you'll be told by your friendly Ford dealer that "the engine isn't designed for industrial use" and that's why it failed. This is exactly why companies that build sewer cleaning trucks, vacuum excavators and other industrial equipment that may run for 3 days straight won't touch one with a 10 (or even 15) foot pole. They tell you to get a chassis with an inline 6, whether it's Cummins, Cat, or Navistar so it can be run continuous duty under hard load.
Reply:And I gotta try tigging a razor blade to a large chunk-o-something now. I'm guessing the trick is a small tungsten and a very good pre-heat on the hunk-o-something before welding. I also assume no filler is used?

Reply:7.3 Powerstroke = T444E International engine, it is in plenty of medium duty trucks, the 6.0 Powerstroke = VT365 International engine, also in plenty of medium duty trucks. Last time I checked a ramp truck, a box van, a dump truck, or any other rig like that was industrial. I give you the Cummins all day long, just saying that a 7.3/6.0 is not a hunk of crap like a 6.2/6.5 GM.Disclaimer; "I am just an a$$hole welder, don't take it personally ."
Reply:What's crazy is that they're still building that dog at AM General.

Reply:I have a f 250 with a power stroke and knock on wood it has been a very reliable truck has hauled/towed any thing ive throwed at it. i pull two jeeps and two 4 wheelers to murphy north carolina (tellico) 3-4 times a year and will pass chevrolets and occasionly dodges on the steep grades. dont get me wrong the cummins is probably the stoutest engine on the market for light trucks (less than 2 tons) but in my opinion ford has the best chasis. The two jeeps and two 4 wheelers and gooseneck trailer equals about 11,000 lbs and while its far from stock the power stroke has thoroughly impressed me and as far as the duramax................................well i dont wanna piss anyone off

Reply:Cummins 6BT, probably the assembly index dowel, walked out and made it around to punch the cover out. He nursed it home a 150 miles by keeping the oil topped off. It runs good and carries good oil pressure. I'm sure the dowel is digested or ejected. What should he do?   Weld a beer can to it?? Last edited by denrep; 12-26-2007 at 09:36 PM.
