Just finished building my dream shop, now I need to fill it with tools.I would like to know what kind of machine the average guy needs to have in his shop. I dont see myself weldnig anything over 1/4". Do you recomend the stick or wire feed for all purpose welding.any advice would be great. makes models amps brands trying to stay within 600 bucks.Thanks for your time. Im glad I found this site it will come in handy when I get started on some projects.Poorboy

Reply:Yeah, looks like I will be saving for a while. I guess the real question is stick or wire feed?so I know what to save for and can get some advice on what brand.I cant wait to start asking some real questions about welding, I just need to get started first.thanks
Reply:look into a miller DVI they are good hobbyist machines to have in a shop. They can handle 1/4 pretty easy --Gol'
Reply:If your budget is $600 don't go and spend $500-$600 on the welder unless you already have grinder, chop saw, torch set, clamps, vise, safety gear, ect. If your shop is furnished then spend what you got. If your shop is bare find a used 200-250 amp buzz box type machine, A/C D/C if you can find one. If you spend the whole wad on a welder and don't have the related equipment it will become a dust collector real quick.Last edited by tresi; 01-15-2008 at 09:09 PM. |
