Reply:Welcome to the forum. Page 12, section A-5: http://content.lincolnelectric.com//...r/im/IM738.pdfTig torch is (-), work clamp is (+). For stick welding, work clamp is (-), stinger is (+). Keep that link bookmarked! Last edited by MicroZone; 01-14-2008 at 03:29 PM.John -  fabricator extraordinaire, car nut!-  bleeding Miller blue! http://www.weldfabzone.com
Reply:I would use lift arc to start. Touch the tung to the metal and lift not drag. If you use HF you never touch the metal the arc jumps. The reason I sugest useing lift is with HF until you get some practice in the HF will knock the crap out of you. When you get better about the weld you have time to remeber to watch the tung. Also it is good to learn now because after you start with the HF you wont want to use LA but not all machines have HF. I used HF when I welded stainless for KRAFT foods and I got shocked at first bu not more than once or twice since then about 7 years. Steel Thunder Welding LLC. St. Thomas VI USAMM350PBOBCAT 3MAXSTAR 150 STH375 EXTREME PLASMA6.5 HP COMPRESORDEWALT 18, 24, AND 36 VOLTO/A TORCH SETAND SO MUCH MORE I DONT REMEMBERALL IN MY 2005 2500HD EXTENDED CAB L/B
Reply:thanks will try that and let you know
Reply:The ground is POSITIVETorch is NEGATIVE.Polarity can be changed for certain metals and thicknesses BUT ONLY on the welding machine controls, NOT the torch itself.

Reply:OK...grounding clamp.
Reply:It's been a ground clamp for 40 years and I'm not changing now.The difference between art and craft is the quality of the workmanship. I am an artist.
Reply:grand dad always told me keep the tungsten out of the puddle keep the damn tungsten out of the puddle and keep the god damn tungsten out of the puddle  hope that helps...
