Reply:Measuring tools. I particularly like my little 6" X 3/4" machinist steel rule I've had over 20 years. I use it when I measure anythig less than 6", or anytime fractions are involved. Tape measures just don't cut it for accurate, close tolerance work.I also love my drawers full of inside/outside mics, calipers, dividers, combo and std. squares, straight edges, dykem blue and scribes. I guess it's a machinist thing.Hobart 140 Handler w/ gasHyperTherm Powermax 380 Plasmaoxy/acetylene

Reply:Some things just cannot be done without the right tool. After once trying to remove the Sanke valve from a 1/2 barrel beer keg (to clean and fill with home brew), I learned that there a special "wheel puller" type gizmo that is needed to compress the valve slightly so the retaining ring can be easily removed/installed. I made myself one of these tools, only used it a couple of times, but it's priceless when you need it.

Reply:For welding: my BFH(4 pound mini sledge) and that elusive soapstone I can never find when I need it.For other parts of my job: My Fluke multimeter and a flathead screwdriver.
Reply:All depends on the job at hand, But most of the time I have my chipping hammer, a 2ft square, lufkin measuring tape, and my "fitting" hammer... a 4lb sledge with a shortened handle.

Reply:not one tool can be singled out as the "One and only, greatest tool ever". i'd put my top five as AutoCAD, Sledge, Welder, Helmet, and Torch. you could do just about any project without one or two of them, but when it gets down to the details, they all help out in their own way and helps make everything much, much easier... especially AutoCAD, but they all have their own special place near my heart (or finger as i smash it really REALLY hard. hehehehehe. )later,Andy

And this remote control. The ashtray, the paddle game, and the remote control, and that's all I need. And these matches. The ashtray, and these matches, and the remote control and the paddle ball. And this lamp. The ashtray, this paddle game and the remote control and the lamp and that's all I need. And that's all I need too. I don't need one other thing, not one - I need this. The paddle game, and the chair, and the remote control, and the matches, for sure. And this. And that's all I need. The ashtray, the remote control, the paddle game, this magazine and the chair. Reply:I think it would have to be a pen, or some kind of writing instrument. Most projects start with a quick sketch on a scrap piece of paper. I also like to write down my thoughts on something sometimes, and of course I have a habit of jotting down any new information I find and want to refer back to later. I don't know what I would do if I couldn't write something down or make a picture of something I have in my head.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op
Reply:I would say many good ideas would be lost or important details forgotten and they would not work as planned when in haste. I do it all the time like when I almost forgot my duck calls this morning for a trip about 2 hours away. That would have been rather pointless just like forgetting my gun or ammo .
