Well, I managed to do a bead with my Miller 30A spoolgun. I now have a stupid question. The aluminum welding really does a number on the consumables, what type of nozzle dip or spray is recommended for these types of guns. I presently use one for my regular Bernard Q300 that works quite well made by ProStar but I understand this would contaminate my weld for aluminumany information would be greatly appreciated.Guy_48Welding is an art......Millermatic 252Lincoln SP175PlusLincoln 225 AC/DC
Reply:I would be a little leary of dipping my SG. If a glob of that crap drools out into the puddle it would be ugly. What I do is make a pass and get the nozzle hot and use the spray type anti spatter and give the nozzle and contact tip a little spritz. I say hot because the solvent will evap off rapidly and no drips in your puddle. Just my .02Yeah, yeah, I know you are a weldor too. But, are you a good one?
Reply:Keep in mind that i don't do alot of aluminum mig, but my understanding is to never use anti spatter on aluminum as it can contaminate the weld.  Perhaps some of the more aluminum experienced guys will chime in here.I'm a Lover, Fighter, Wild horse Rider, and a pretty good welding man......

Reply:Use nothing.
Reply:Yes, i understand that is what you are refering to.  I was using the term anti spatter as one in general.  As Turboblown has said.  I was always taught to not use any type of dip or spray on the gun due to the contimination possibility.  Ironken, that wasn't a dig towards you.  Only meant MORE opinions from experienced guys would be good to see.I'm a Lover, Fighter, Wild horse Rider, and a pretty good welding man......
Reply:Take the nozzle off the gun and spray a little anti-spatter inside the nozzle and get to welding.   It won't hurt a thing.  I mig welded aluminum full time for 4 years in high volume production and sprayed the nozzle about once a day and never had a problem with it messing up the weld.  Anti-spatter spray won't ruin your weld unless you're spraying it on the metal before you weld it.Have fun with your new spool gun!MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op
