I have been looking for a new place to buy my grinding disks and cutoff wheels, and thought I would ask on here where you guys shop. I have been buying mine thru my LWS (Airgas), but they have primarily gone to Radnor which is basically crap. The guys there I deal with are good guys, and always treated me right but they continually have to push Airgas's own products, and they just don't have the quality. Just thought I would see what you guys are using. Thanks ~JacksonI'm a Lover, Fighter, Wild horse Rider, and a pretty good welding man......
Reply:When I run out of what I have from my LWS im going to try this place.http://www.bulletindustries.com/catalog/index.php
Reply:I buy from my LWS (not Airgas), and get Carborendum stuff. I buy the gold line, they cost a lil more but are worth it.Disclaimer; "I am just an a$$hole welder, don't take it personally ."
Reply:Have been using Dewalt discs from the lowes, and oddly enough from the local Harbor frieght. HF has them priced dirt cheap. The Dewalt XL discs with Zirconia are much better than the standard ones(and pricier too). My LWS sells discs labeled Pipeliner(not sure if this is brand or manufacturer), and they're good, good and expensive.

Reply:I can't take credit for it since someone on here directed me there. $1.79 for a Zirconia 4-1/2" flapper disc.http://www.lehighvalleyabrasives.com/servlet/StoreFrontDanMy instructor said someone will catch on fire during class...He wasn't joking!!
Reply:That bullet industries websites has some great prices. I may have to try a few of those and see how they hold up. I used to get disk from a company here in Georgia called Future abrasives. They worked great, and were reasonably priced. The guy that was supplying me passed away and I haven't been able to get them anymore. I just emailed the company to see if I can buy direct from them as there isn't a dealer close to me. I've seen the Lehighvalley site, and they do have great prices, and from what i hear a great flap wheel. I just don't use alot of flap wheels.I'm a Lover, Fighter, Wild horse Rider, and a pretty good welding man......
Reply:From one LWS and one steel supplier I buy the SAIT red. They say quick grind or easy grind or some such thing. Not as much glue as Nortons. They go a little quicker but man do they move some metal. Kinda pricey one at a time off the shelf like that. There's probably some place online to get them cheaper in bulk. I get there aluminum wheels too for cleaning that heavy dubble hot dip galvy off.
Reply:The bullet ind is the best cheap flap disk I have found.....the 14" carbide tipped blade for chop saws is crap....the 7 1/4 has done well on my skill saw and outlasted two morse metal devil's
Reply:Hammack- I married my abrasive. I mean, she has been grinding me for everything for the last 20 years!!!! But grinding discs??? Any place will do.And then, after so much work...... you have it in your hand, and you look over to your side...... and the runner has run off. Leaving you holding the prize, wondering when the runner will return.
Reply:The Bullet and Lehigh discs are ok at best. They are cheap, no doubt about that. I am running them against the house brand of my steel supplier and Radnor and the Blacksmith and Radnor are lasting about 3-4 times longer. That puts the cheapness into perspective for me. I'll stay with name brand or proven discs in the future. You really do get what you pay for.FWIW, the Radnors are my least favorites anyway...but they do last a lot longer than the Lehigh and Bullets.
Reply:The local HF has Dewalt 4-1/2" discs and Norton 14" cutoffs. I like their no-name 3" pneumatic cutoff discs, too. For 12" sanding dicsc I can get 3-M and other good items from ENCO in one to two days if I order in the morning. I don't like Radnor...........Can we say HF and ENCO here? |
